Accomplished Vineyard Manager Brings over 28 years of
Experience
Santa Rosa, CA (July 7, 2009) - Benovia Winery, a producer of top
quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay based in the Russian River
Valley, has hired vineyard expert Christopher Kangas to run the
winery's vineyard operations. As Vineyard Manager, Mr. Kangas will
be responsible for the development and maintenance of the 60.5
acres of estate vineyards.
"I'm looking forward to working with the Benovia team," said
Kangas. "At Benovia, there is a real attention to detail in both
grape growing and wine making. They have the resources necessary to
do things in the vineyard that others aren't prepared to commit to.
At Benovia, quality winemaking is the number one goal. That is a
goal I can get behind."
Born and raised in Sonoma County, Mr. Kangas has spent his
career walking some of California's best vineyards. He follows a
philosophy of sustainable vineyard practices, taking into
consideration the environmental impact, community relationships,
and economic viability of the vineyards he tends.
"With recent vineyard acquisitions and the current growth we are
experiencing, we need someone dedicated to helping us maintain the
quality of fruit we need to make Benovia wines," said Mike
Sullivan, Winemaker and co-owner. "I have been working with Chris
over the past few years and have come to respect his talent in the
vineyards. He is the perfect addition to the Benovia winemaking
family."
Prior to joining the Benovia team, Mr. Kangas worked for Bowland
Vineyard Management, a company that counts Benovia as a client and
manages over 400 acres of vineyards. In his role there, he oversaw
a wide range of viticultural practices and worked closely with
individual winemakers to grow the highest quality grapes
possible.
Previous to Bowland Vineyard Management, he held Vineyard
Manager or Supervisor positions at Feeney's Russian River Valley
Vineyards and DeLoach Ranches/Sweet Water Land and Cattle Company
where he spent 21 years.
Mr. Kangas lives with his wife and two sons in Sebastapol,
California.
