Our Growers

Petersen Vineyard

The Petersen family has been farming this land since 1908. Will Petersen’s grandfather came here from Denmark and Germany and fell in love with the land. Originally they planted Zinfandel and variety called “Burger”.  They also planted apples and over the years have created a dairy and of course chickens....a working farm in other words.

Will Petersen was told by the “experts” that it was too cool to grow grapes at his property. Good thing he didn’t listen.  He has a 7.5 acre Pinot Noir vineyard and a smaller 1.5 Pinot Noir vineyard near his house. This area is in the Petaluma wind gap and when we drive out there on a sunny day the temperature can be anywhere from 10-15 degrees cooler than at the winery. The grapes from the 2006 vintage went into our Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, the wines have good acidity and bright fruit flavors.
