Benovia Winery and The Anderson Family Foundation Donate $10,000 To The Redwood Empire Food Bank

A percentage of proceeds from the sale of Benovia’s Courageous Care Pinot Noir was donated to the food bank, and matched by The Anderson Family Foundation

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (November 25, 2020) – At a critical time when demand has doubled at food banks, Benovia Winery and The Anderson Family Foundation are pleased to announce that they have donated $10,000 to The Redwood Empire Food Bank. Joe Anderson is the chairman and co-founder of Benovia Winery, and the patriarch of The Anderson Family Foundation.

Mike Sullivan, co-owner and winemaker at Benovia, crafted a Pinot Noir called Courageous Care earlier this year. A percentage of proceeds from the sale of Courageous Care was donated to The Redwood Empire Food Bank, and The Anderson Family Foundation matched the donation.

Courageous Care Pinot Noir honors the memory of midwife Margaret Foley, and pays tribute to the brave men and women who are fighting COVID-19. Foley was Joe Anderson’s great-grandmother and she was a midwife during the diphtheria epidemic in 1892. Foley worked tirelessly to treat families who suffered during the epidemic and sadly her own family was not spared. She lost five of her children to the disease. In her memory, the team at Benovia salutes today’s heroes who are selflessly treating COVID-19 patients.

“We are indebted to the courageous men and women who have put themselves in harm’s way to care for others during this COVID-19 pandemic,” said Anderson. “This pandemic has also brought financial hardship to a lot of families, and our food banks are strained. It’s important to us to take care of our friends and neighbors in Sonoma County, whose daily needs are met through the wonderful work of The Redwood Empire Food Bank.”
Located in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, Benovia is known as a Pinot Noir destination. For the 2018 Courageous Care Pinot Noir, winemaker and co-owner Mike Sullivan blended select fruit from two of Benovia’s sustainably-farmed estate vineyards to create a vibrant wine with intriguing flavors of black raspberry, cherry and white pepper. On the palate, the wine’s juicy mouthfeel is supported by plum and pomegranate, with fine grain tannins.

2018 Courageous Care Pinot Noir is $40 per bottle and the wine can be acquired here.
